Problems-Editing- 11/12/09

We yet again face another problem today. Our target last time was to finish the remaining part of the film. This however was not done and was agreed to continue today after school. Unfortunately this is not going to be possible as one of the group member who is also a key actor that has the camera is not present due to personal issues.

However, as we uploaded the previous footage on the laptop, we will continue to edit the footage in the mean time.

Shooting Day 9- 11/12/09

Today during lesson time we will start to edit our music video. However, as there are some parts left to be shot, we are going to meet up after college to target finishing the video shots. We are going to spend time in the college shooting the female actress scenes, as we now were able to find a new female actress. Afterwards, we are going to meet up near lime house riverside to re-shoot a scene, as mistakes were made before. We target to finish the shooting by tomorrow and start fully editing the video on Monday 14th.

Shooting day 7-6th december

Today, after a long time, we got most of the filming done. We agree that it was really successful as most of the group members were present and on time to shoot the video. Whilst shooting the video, we had the storyboard with us which helped us progess the way we planned. As a result everything went really smoothly and we got more or less all of the filming done.
On the other hand we did make quiet a few Dramatic changes. For exampe, the actors that were performing on our previous shoot, were not with us therefore the casting had to be altered and in the end one of our group members had to cast in th video. We decided for our group member to act as he will always be available and the costume can be organised and easily accessible.

Other changes we made was in relation to the storyboard. For example, at one point, instead of using the frame and shot that was in the storyboard(longshot), we decided to use a different one (zooming out from a close up). This was done as we thought it will make the shot not seem typical and standard.

However, sometime during the last five minutes of shooting, our luck turned around as the weather became overcast and along came a light drizzle.
In the end, we had to stop filming but it wasnt that much of a big deal as we achieved what we planned.

Overall, we were very satisfied with the results as we followd our schedule and everything went according to plan.

More Problems

Today we are in a more bad situation as we are ready to edit our music video but we havnt got the camera present thus we are unable to upload our latest footage of our video. This problem occured because one of our group members who has access to the camera isnt present in the lesson due to family matters.

Shooting Day 6- 3/11/2009

unfortunately, due to parents evening held at Sir John Cass at 4pm, our actors were unable to come during the shooting. As the meeting finished around 6pm, by that time it got dark outside and temperatures were unsettled, due to those reasons, we were not able to finish shooting our video. However, the shooting will commence the next day as all actors, cast and crew will be available.

Problems with Shooting Day 5- 1/12/2009

Due to Personal/Family issues with most of our cast and crew, we were unable to shoot our music music video at the present day. As we try desperately to sort everything out, we will continue to shoot the video the next day.

Although we have failed to meet the shooting deadline which was on 30/11/09, we hope to get the movie done by the 7th of December.

Problems

Today, whilst trying to upload our footage on the computer, we faced a major problem. As we played the tape, instead of seeing our footage we saw stripes on the screen. This was a major dilemma because we might need to shoot the whole footage again. We tried to overcome the problem by using different cameras to upload the footage but unfortunately it did the same thing every time we tried.

Now we are going to have to shoot the whole video again because we are not able to fix the problem. However the footage that are being able to be seen will be included.

Shooting Day 4- 29/11/2009

Due to consistent heavy rain, we could not shoot outdoors, We still managed to shoot some footage indoors. This put our group in a bit of a situation as we couldn't follow our schedule. Also, one of our actresses main role was to be filmed outdoors and this wasn't possible due to the weather issues. However, to overcome this distraction we have to continue shooting another day.

Shooting Day 3- 28/11/2009

Due to bad weather conditions, we were unable to shoot the music videos outdoors where most of the scenes are located. However, we were able to do some filming inside the Directors house.

Letter to Record Company

We have written a letter to Chris Brown's record company, RCA Records, in order to gain permission to use the track 'Lottery'.

Chris Brown- Excuse Me Miss

I have uploaded this video because it is very similar to the video we are creating. This track is also from the artist Chris Brown titled Excuse Me Miss. In this video, you can see the male actor/artist following the female actress trying to get her attention. In comparison, the video we are shooting will also have the male actor following the female actress trying to get her number.

Shooting Day 1- 20/11/2009

Today we are going out to shoot some scenery for our music video. We are going to use these shots for the opening of the video. The type of shots we are going to do are tracking shots, establishing shots and some long shots. The location we are going to use are Stepney Green spider park and the green space in front of the college, and some shots inside the college. We decided to do these shots today as the actors were not present.

Jay Sean- Eyes on you

This video from Jay Sean is similar to the idea we got. We going to use alot of tracking shots in our video. The video of Jay Sean also includes alot of tracking shots.

Possible Locations

These are some of the locations we have planned to use in our music video.

We have planned to shoot a scene in the park. As the music is a love song, the park would go along as a nice location. This is either going to be in victoria or mile end park. This is the scene, where thw actors will first meet and the male will go into a gaze.

We have also planned to use the Directors (Cordell) living room for one of our scene. Although we havent fully planned what scene we are going to shoot in the living room, using a variety locations will make the video look more exciting.

For our second idea, we plan to use a train station showing the actors coming out out.we are not exactly using this one but we are going to use a similar station.

we can use this location to show that the charecter is toping up his phone we can take couple of shots inside the shop.

Chris Brown- Lottery

This is the final music my group and I have chosen to do as our coursework video. The artist is Chris Brown and the title of the song is 'Lottery'. The reason why we have chosen Chris Brown is because he is a very popular artist. His music are mainly RnB which goes with our genre choice. The song is about a boy trying to get a girls number. But before he can get it, he trys to guess it and describes what it would mean to him. The music was released on 2007 and does not have an official music video.

Possible Ideas:
1) As this song does not have an Official Music Video, it becomes more challenging as we do not have the video to take ideas from. It will be nice to compare our video to the original music video and see if we can spot any similarities. The video will feature both male and female actors, with the male playing the dominant role. The video will start of by the male looking at this girl which he likes the number from, falls into a gaze and goes to a fantasy world. This is where the music will come. The male actor will follow the girl in various different locations and days where he will be guessing the numbers which the girl will resist to give. At the end of the video, the male comes out of the gaze and goes back to the real life.

2) Our second idea would be shoot up the whole song in a tube station, as the girl is leaving the station, and the boy is trying to get her number. Even though she is not paying attention as if she doesnt want to give it, he starts following her. Theres a hint in the girls face (using close up shots) that she is also interested but show it easily. He keeps on following her as she tries to go home. she waits at the bus stop, and he keeps on singing the lyrics. She gets on the bus, and the boy is rejected as he lost his oyster card. Then the boy goes to the nearest shop and tops £10 credit on his phone. The next scene is at his house, where he is thinking about the girl and ringing random numbers.....

Possible Props:
-Mobile Phones for both Actors
-Casual Clothes
-Handbag
-Lottery Papers

Shooting Dates:
We will start shooting the video on the 16th of November. We will carry on and see what days the cast and crew are available which will be our next shooting days.

Chris Brown- Lottery Lyrics

"Lottery"

If I gotta guess it I will
I think it's 310-143-1437
Baby if I press it then will I get to you?
Let me know, what is your number girl?

Every minute is worth a dime of spending
You can change my whole life if you fit it
Odds are, one in a billion
My heart, I bet on you if I just get your number

Girl if I put your number in my phone
I hope that it's the right one
Girl If I did then
I'm goin in tonight hon
It could mean a lot for me
I think I done hit the lottery, baby yeah
Think I hit the lottery, baby yeah

Get on this investment cause if you bet on me
Then we can go anywhere in love it's nothing
If I leave a message I hope that it goes through
Let me know, if I'm the one girl

Every minute is worth a dime of spending
You can change my whole life if you fit it
Odds are, one in a billion
My heart, I bet on you if I just get your number

Girl if I put your number in my phone
I hope that it's the right one
Girl If I did then
I'm goin in tonight hon
It could mean a lot for me
I think I done hit the lottery, baby yeah
Think I hit the lottery, baby yeah
Think I hit the lottery...

If you choose me (Girl I promise)
If you choose (I'll be honest)
If you choose me (Won't abuse it)
If you choose me
And if you choose me
if you choose me
And if you, if you choose me
And if you choose (I'mma love you)

Girl if I put your number in my phone
I hope that it's the right one
Girl If I did then
I'm goin in tonight hon
It could mean a lot for me
I think I done hit the lottery, baby yeah
Think I hit the lottery, baby yeah

(Can I get your number?)

Girl let me get that number, I hit the jackpot girl
Your like the lottery, your like the lottery yeah
Girl let me get that number, I hit the jackpot girl
Your like the lottery, your like the lottery yeah

Girl let me get that number, I hit the jackpot girl
Your like the lottery, your like the lottery yeah
Girl let me get that number, I hit the jackpot girl
Your like the lottery, your like the lottery yeah

Jay Sean Ft Lil Wayne- Down

This is a recent RnB music video from the artist Jay Sean. This one also has a featured artist, Lil Wayne. In comparison to other RnB video's, i have spotted that most artist tend to use featured artist. This is because the colabiration makes the sales of the album even higher. This song also has women actresses as the song is from a male for a female. The video has affects and also uses stylish props for the actors. There are various different types of shots such as High angle and panning to make the video look better. However, the lyrics of the song does not match the actual video.

Chris Brown- Forever

This a typical RnB song from the artist Chris Brown. The Title of the song is Forever.Just like most RnB music, the song is for a girl as it is sung by a boy. The video is very modern based so it has loads of affects an visuals. The Video has 3 main settings where they use strong lighting affects. The Main actors in this video is Chris Brown himself, a lady actress and a variety of male and female dancers. The song is closely matched with the lyrics, as the lyrics consist of the word 'Dance Floor' you see the actor mainly dancing during every scene.

Research for R&B and Grime Music

The genre we are going to be focusing on are R&B and Grime music
The most popular artist at the moment in Grime music is Tinchy Stryder. The popular artists for R&B music are T-Pain, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Akon and Jay Sean.

Popular R&B and Grime Artists:

N-Dubz, Jay Sean, Tinchy Stryder, Eminem, Leona Lewis, Chipmunk, Lil Wayne, Tpain, Akon, Sway...

The typical things you would expect to see in a music video is a person singing the song. The song usually has a message. In an R&B genre music video, you would expect to see a guy/girl singing a love song for the opposite sex.

Mis-en-scene: Fancy clothes, designer brands and accessories. Expensive powerful cars. Good Location

Editing: Music videos usually have lots of different editing done to impress the audience. You would see lots of different visual effects.

Camerawork: There are lots of different speedy cuts in a music video. A scene would last for 3 seconds and skip to another scene. High angle/Low angle etc.

Research for Hip-Hop Genre

Hip-Hop conventions that we have noticed:

1) Prodominantly, black people invented HipHop music, therefore there are more black artists within the genre. The recent MOBO award featured mostly black artists celebrating their invention.

2) Most HipHop tracks that we have looked at had cars, girls and designer brand jewelery and sunglasses

3) HipHop artist also use another artist in there song. Snoop Dogg used Pharell as his featured artist in his track 'Drop it like its hot'

4) The story in the music video's are closely related to the lyrics of the song. Soulja Boy 'Kiss me through the phone' had people in the video giving kisses to their loved ones over the phone...

5) There are more American HipHop artists. Most British HipHop artists are unheard of, or not popular

6) The setting of the HipHop tracks are usually at rich or unusual places. There are more affects and lighting used. In Kanye West's video 'Stroner' he uses strong lighting affects.

Evaluation

So far, my group have learnt that music video making isn't as easy as it seemed. In the old days, music videos had less effects, less cuts and fewer settings in them. Today's music video's have more rapid cuts between scenes, more locations and are at better quality.

One mistake we made during the lipsynching task was that we didnt know the lyrics to the song off by heart. So what we did was get Sheikh to have the lyrics close to him so he can repeat it along whilst playing the song. However, because he did not know the words to the song, he was saying anything which looked out of place. Whilst we were editing the video, we had difficulties to get the video in line with the song. We have learnt that, it is vital to learn the lyrics off by heart, and that we make sure that we say the words along with the artist, not 2 seconds after!!

Nowadays, to sell a music video, it needs to captivate the audience. Comparing a video from the 60's and one from 2009, we saw that the video's these days have much more effects in them. They also had more locations so it does not bore the audience. The video we saw which starred Beyonce, had 30 cuts in 10 seconds. Also, there is a story to every music video.

Different genres have different types of videos. In a R&B song, you would most likely see a couple or a love story. However, in Rock Music, you would see more instruments being played by a band, rather being focused on a main storyline. Some genres need more mis-en-scene then others. Specific music are targetted at a niche audience.

Overall, my group have learnt that to make a captivating video, we need to take more time planning and each group member has to be contributing to the video. Everything needs to be planned before hand.

Sweding Task

The song that we are going to Swede is:
Sweet Dreams are made of these By Eurhythmics

Lyrics:
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something.

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.

Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
I travel the world
And the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something.

Hold your head up - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up.

Some of them want to use you
Some of them want to get used by you
Some of them want to abuse you
Some of them want to be abused.

Hold your head up - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up - Movin' on
Hold your head up - Movin' on - Keep your head up.

Sweet dreams are made of this... (4x and fade)

i chose this video because it's a great music video directed by Frank E.flowers and produced by Janice Biggs. This music video contains a lots of emotion and great audio.
it was released in november 4,2005. One of the other main reason for choosing this video is i love the music in the video and the setting of the video. the location of this video is great as well the song relates with the music as well. the story line of the video is a bit vague and that creates a different kind of atmosphere.
